A Diwali message for the spiritual seeker:

One celebrates Diwali by lighting lamps to dispel darkness. But look within and ask: Who knows the darkness? Who knows the light?

The lamp shines for a while and goes out. The sun rises and sets. Similarly, the light of Consciousness, the knowledge ‘I Am‘, appears and disappears. Who knows that the ‘I Am’ disappeared? Who knows that it reappeared?

You are the Absolute, that is prior to all appearances.

You neither rise nor set.

You neither shine nor cease to shine.

You are beyond the need for illumination.

All perceptions, sensations, thoughts, and feelings are merely movements within Consciousness. They come and go. You are not any of them. You are That which remains when even the knowledge of existence has subsided.

This Diwali, do not merely light another lamp. Let the false identification with the body and mind end. Discover that what you truly are has never been bound, has never been in darkness, and has never needed liberation.

The greatest illumination is the realization that you were never in darkness.
