Question:

Dear Didi,
Please would you guide me on how to do the inquiry on the hundred pointers of Swapna Nidra Gnyana Sadhana, with regard to, Vichara & Vasana?

Answer:

Swapna Nidra Gnyana Sadhana is the effacement of conditioning with the aid of Waking, Dream, and Sleep Witnessing.

To begin the effacement sadhana, begin by reading a wisdom pointer from the book Waking Dreaming Sleeping Being: Swapna Nidra Gnyana Sadhana available on Amazon https://tinyurl.com/bdhx5397. Marinate in it all day.

Attempt to directly SEE Vichaara:

1] Waking Vichaara: Be a witness of the waking Vichaara. Vichaara is the natural arising on account of the spontaneous flow. Recognize that it is called Vichaara as all is thought at Stage 3 of the Direct Seeing of Arisings. Let’s take the natural arising of hunger during lunchtime.

    • The spontaneous Sensation of hunger arises, peaks, and fades. This is Vichaara.
    • The Sensation of the spontaneous movement of the body to gather food on a plate and sit down to eat is Vichaara.
    • The Sensation of the spontaneous movement of the hand bringing the food to the mouth is Vichaara.
    • The spontaneous Perception of taste appears, peaks, and disappears. This is Vichaara.
    • A spontaneous Thought of the plate being empty is Vichaara.
    • A spontaneous mental Feeling of satiation is Vichaara.

2] Dream Vichaara: Attempt the same seeing of the Dream Vichaara that is similarly spontaneous.

3] Deep Sleep Vichaara: Attempt to recognize that Deep Sleep is the spontaneous Absence Vichaara.

All these spontaneous occurrences fall under the umbrella of Vichaara, the flow that brings past impressions as present arisings. The ‘I’ is at a witnessing distance. From that vantage point, there is a clear seeing that ‘I can only know’. Acknowledging spontaneity is accepting that ‘I am not in control’.

Attempt to directly SEE Vasanaa when it arises:

1] Waking Vaasanaa: Recognize the Waking Vaasanaa even if the recognition happens in retrospect.

    • When the witness ignores the spontaneity of the hunger sensation and claims ‘I am hungry’, experiencership has arisen. This is Vaasanaa.
    • When the witness ignores the spontaneity of the movement of the body to gather food on a plate and sit down to eat, it claims ‘I prepare to eat’. Doership has arisen. This is Vaasanaa.
    • When the witness ignores the spontaneity of the movement of the hand bringing the food to the mouth, it claims ‘I eat’. Experiencership has arisen. This is Vaasanaa.
    • When the witness ignores the spontaneity of the Perception of taste appearing, peaking, and disappearing, it claims ‘I taste’. Experiencership has arisen. This is Vaasanaa.
    • When the witness ignores the spontaneity of the Thought of the plate being empty, it claims ‘I need more’. Experiencership has arisen. This is Vaasanaa.
    • When the witness ignores the spontaneity of the mental Feeling of satiation, It says, ‘I enjoyed the food’. Experiencership has arisen. This is Vaasanaa.

2] Dream Vaasanaa: Recognize the Dream Vaasanaa even if the recognition happens in retrospect. Dream Vaasanaa is similarly defined by doership and experiencership.

3] Deep Sleep Vaasanaa: When the witness ignores the spontaneity of the Absence Vichaara and claims ‘I am absent there or I am asleep there’, that is Experiencership which is a Vaasanaa.

All these experiencership and doership assumptions and their respective claims fall under Vaasanaa. The ‘I’ has forgotten that it can only know or witness. It assumes to control the uncontrollable. Ignoring the spontaneity is Ignorance.

P.S. This is a very subtle level of work dear. You will have to set the world aside completely to do this intricate and delicate work on the inner self. Keep chugging!
