Relationship Karma
Question:
In my relationship with my spouse, lately I have this insistent gut feeling that it won’t last. Is it because of any past impression? Why does it happen?
Answer:
It could be a difficult relationship for you because of your past impressions of this lifetime or because of the impressions carried from previous lifetime. But remember, it is totally brought on to you by your own self. How? By intense raaga or dvesha carried in your heart for a long time. Here are some principles to help you understand this better:
Principle No 1 – Karma is 100% fair! As you sow, so shall you reap! Whatever is happening to you, is because of you. There is really no tall man dressed in white robes with a long white beard, sitting up in the clouds, making a debit and credit of your deeds, sending you appropriate punishments! This is all good in mythology.
Principle No 2 – Gahana karmanogati – Unfathomable are the ways of Karma! You never know which karma is because of what and why and how long? It’s impossible to find out so stop being a detective.
So it is best to let go of thinking too much and questioning it. It makes more sense to just go with the flow. Going with the flow means, just like a leaf flows with water, you flow with the current of life. Karma is the kinetic energy that moves life. So drop fighting against the current. Your fight against the current is “I like this, I want this, etc.” or your fight is “I hate this, I don’t want this, etc.” Drop this struggle with the flow of life! Just flow like a leaf devoid of struggles. Just smile and be with what is!
Because what is, IS!

Other parties may be saying something because they have alternate vantage points. In Jainism there is the concept of Anektavad. Meaning multi-sided view of things. So, something might be “6” from one vantage point, but it will be “9” from alternate vantage points. The party that is arguing with us, is portraying points from their view. Even if they are totally opposite to what we are saying, accepting their point of view is complete acceptance.
Swami Vivekanda said “Never argue, it disturbs the mind. What is kept in school boy fights? There are higher truths to discover. Just walk away from arguments.”
Just accepting and letting go, even if the opposite party is vindictive, derogatory, vile, keeps us stable. It is for our own good, that not a single thought is invested in unwanted arguments.
Just, Accept (or agree to disagree) and keep the mind from running behind every innuendo hurled at us.
Ruminating is waste of energy, which energy can be used for more productive proposes.
