Question:

How do you differentiate real joy and fake joy? How can we find the enjoyment is real and not fake one?

Answer:

Hello dear, that’s a real deep question. The joy that comes from the objects of senses is temporary. Hence it is not real joy. Because that which is real cannot be temporary, cannot be transient, cannot end.

The joy that comes from sense of sight is temporary. How long can you stare at a beautiful scenery or a beautiful person or a beautiful thing? Your eyes get tired after a while. The mind keeps thirsting for more joy but the sense of sight is not capable of providing that satisfaction. The senses cannot fulfill the thirst of the mind for the pleasures of sight.

The joy that comes from sense of sound is temporary too. How long can you listen to music or somebody’s praise, or the words of a beloved? Your ears become tired after a while. The mind keeps thirsting for more joy but the sense of sound is not capable of providing that satisfaction. The senses cannot fulfill the thirst of the mind for the pleasures of sound.

The joy that comes from sense of touch is temporary too. How long can you touch something beautiful whether it is a person or a thing? Your body gets tired after a while. The mind keeps thirsting for more joy but the sense of touch is not capable of providing that satisfaction. The senses cannot fulfill the thirst of the mind for the pleasures of sex.

The joy that comes from sense of taste is temporary. How much can you eat? Your stomach gets tired after a while, it screams and shouts and refuses the same tasty food it craved for. The mind keeps thirsting for more joy but the sense of taste is not capable of providing that satisfaction. The senses cannot fulfill the thirst of the mind for the pleasures of taste.

The joy that comes from sense of smell is temporary. How much can you smell? The perfumes that you apply cannot be smelled by you after a while. The mind keeps thirsting for more joy but the sense of smell is not capable of providing that satisfaction. The senses cannot fulfill the thirst of the mind for the pleasures of smell.

Real joy has nothing to do with an external agent. It is the peace and calm that is your own nature. It is your core nature. When you are established in your core nature, then everything you do, whether it is successful or not, you are still at peace.

WHY?

    • Because your doing is not attached to conditions of success or failure.
    • Because you are just flowing with the river of life!
    • Because you just ARE! And Just being is real joy!

Remember your mind will never allow you to just BE! The mind wants to DO! For you to experience just BEING, the mind needs to become NO MIND! The entire spiritual path is a journey from MIND to NO MIND!

      Hi Shalini,

Ektaji teaches ISNESS. Where you are observing that your essence, that defines you being sentient, is separate from your body and mind. Probably you should try this in the class.
Just observe your mind. In between the chatter, there is some gap, may be just milli seconds long. Those milli seconds you are in “no-mind” state. The practitioner tries to elongate this silence and eventually can feel the “no-mind” for longer duration.

      Hope that helps.
