Make room for Equanimity!
Question:
Dear Ekta didi, When the first thought comes up (vichara), and the witnessing awareness forgets its stand, jumps in, and gets involved in the story creation (vasana), is there a pause in the natural flow of arisings? If so, is this pause in arisings also a part of the script? I am curious to know if the story creation tendency of the mind interferes (causes a delay) with the flow of arisings?
Answer:
There is always a gap between any two-arisings. This gap is there irrespective of whether the ‘I’ jumps in and creates Vasana [illusory chain of cravings or aversions] or not. The meaning of a gap is that when one ends, then there is nothing for a while before another begins. That is how there is one arising in any given instance. The flow is comprised of Arising + Gap + Arising + Gap + Arising. Vichara means the flow. Arisings arise from the natural flow at their assigned time. The timing is not predictable.
The Script is the chain of Arisings. The Gap is the Backdrop Consciousness-at-rest, which is visible in between the Arisings. Gain a strong foothold in the gap and squeeze through to the background of Nothingness (speaking metaphorically here). See clearly that:
- When the ‘I’ jumps in and creates stories, it fills up the gap with imagination and dream-like illusions. That is why the empty, quiet gap is missed.
The Vasanatmik one will be overwhelmed with Vichara arisings [natural flow] + Vasananatmic stories [illusions] of the ‘I’.
A Gap is the natural background that remains as it is. The wise one learns the skill of BEING, devoid of ‘becoming’. One who never betrays one’s true nature of NOBODYNESS and NOTHINGNESS remains established in Truth.
Start by standing as the witness until you have a clear view of the natural gap. Make room for equanimity. Avoid the ‘story-creation’ chaos.
