If I were content with the pleasures of Waking, Dreaming, and Sleeping, would I trade them for an alternate identity?

Ask yourself the question: Is there contentment found in the waking, dreaming, and deep sleep? The cunning mind that wants to keep chasing the objects of the waking, dreaming, and sleeping will say YES. However, an awkward inner silence suggests that the correct answer is NO. 

If there were contentment in the Waking, you would have found it by now. You made money, created luxuries, had relationships, produced babies, yet there was no permanent peace found there. If you were truly content with the Waking, would you trade it at 11 pm every night for the Dreaming and the Deep Sleep states? NO! Similarly, if you were content with the Dream, would you trade it for the darkness of Sleep? If you were content with Sleep, would you trade it for the Waking or Dreaming? 

One must dive into oneself and investigate with care. Figure out what is going on there. That is silent self-inquiry.

• • There is a consistent restlessness, a shuddering, a shakiness, a fear, a crazy, arcane search for the impossible that is ongoing.
  • The ‘I’ that arises from Deep Sleep should not spring up if there is really peace in sleep. What’s going on? Isn’t the clear conclusion that there is no peace in deep sleep either? 

In summary, there is no permanent peace in the so-called pleasures of the 3 three worlds. Waking, Dreaming, and Deep sleep are incapable of delivering that which I am yearning for. Find the answer to this mysterious seeking.
