Doership is pretentious, you CANNOT be the Doer!
Question:
Namaste Ektaji,
Vichara turns to Vasana when I interfere. Doesn’t interference imply doership?
Answer:
Life is flowing spontaneously, devoid of a controller.
- A thought arises of its own accord. It is not known before it arises. If it were in one’s control, it would be known.
- A feeling arises of its own accord. It is not known before it arises. If it were in one’s control, it would be known.
- A sensation arises of its own accord. It is not known before it arises. If it were in one’s control, it would be known.
- A perception arises of its own accord. It is not known before it arises. If it were in one’s control, it would be known.
These comprise what is called the spontaneous flow or Vichaarah-Vriti-Pravaha [Sanskrit].
The ‘I-sense’ is the only aspect that one can be sure of. It is the only aspect in control. Yet, it does not have complete control. The only control that it has is being:
- Bahirmukhi – When the ‘I-sense’ gets involved, it indulges in or abstains from the spontaneous arisings of the flow. This is called Vaasanaa.
- Antarmukhi – When the ‘I-sense’ turns inwards in search of its true nature, it maintains neutrality towards the arisings. This is called Vaasanaakshaya.
When one is Bahirmukhi, he is Vaasanaatmak. It simply means that the ‘I-sense’ assumes that it is doing and experiencing. The ‘I-sense’ is, in reality, behind a metaphorical glass wall, as if sitting in front of a movie screen; it can never act or experience, it can only assume, suppose, pretend, or believe.
Doership is not implied here, dear. Assumed doership is implied. Doership is always illusory. It is never real. It can only be assumed, supposed, or taken for granted without proof.
Assumed doership is a feeling of non-satisfaction arising from the seed of Jijivisha or the craving to exist. Howsoever much the ‘I’ assumes to exist, it dies into the Deep Sleep nothingness repeatedly. Its pretence falls on its face. That feeling of non-satisfaction has varied, agitated flavors called Vaasanaa.
- The idea that ‘I am’ is an illusory flavor of Vaasanaa called Asmita.
- The idea that ‘This is mine’ is an illusory flavor of Vasana called Mamata.
- The idea that ‘I can do’ is an illusory flavor of Vaasanaa called Karta bhav.
- The idea that ‘I can experience’ is an illusory flavor of Vaasanaa called Bhogta bhav.
Asmita, Mamata, Karta, and Bhogta are illusory assumptions, not actual happenings. (We can dive deeper into self-inquiry of each of these in a 10-day silent retreat.)
Always remember that Interference with the natural body-mind-world operation is only a Vasanatmic idea that ‘I can change this or that Vichara’. It is an illusion. It is assumed doership. The spontaneous flow can never be controlled by anyone. Relinquish the idea of control, then the ideas of doership, and experiencership will automatically fade away.
Doership is pretentious, you CANNOT be the Doer! Experiencership is pretentious, you CANNOT be the Experiencer! You are NOT!
You are NOT!
