Anhad Naad can be used as a beginners self-inquiry tool

by | Feb 19, 2025 | Awareness, General Spiritual, Intellect, Meditation, Sakshi Bhav/Witness, Silence, Thoughts

Question:

I attempt to stay established as the witness, during my daily activities and in closed-eye contemplation. As I notice myself getting lost in thoughts, and I bring myself back to the witness, I immediately become aware of the sound of silence/naad/crickets like chirping. It seems easier to break away from thoughts when I take my awareness to the sound of the silence. Is this ok?

Answer:

Yes, dear. It is a good starting point. Attempt to use the Anhad Naad to begin self-inquiry.

    • Is there a source that you can point out from where the Naad originates?
    • The intellect might point towards the sky as the source. Don’t accept it blindly, jump in and question if there is a sky outside me-the-witnessing awareness.
    • Do I have any proof of the sky or space being the origin of the Naad?
    • Do I have any proof of the Creation/World being the origin of the Naad?
    • Do I have any proof of a Creation out there that is producing the Naad?
    • Is there anything outside ‘Me-the-Witnessing Awareness’ field?
    • When do I recognize it?
    • When do I miss it?
    • Is it a sound that I am hearing? OR Is it Me-the-Witnessing Awareness?

Don’t stop until you find the answers to all these questions dear.

The Naad is used as a meditation tool by Buddhist monks. You are fortunate that you are inclined towards the Naad. Be inspired by your natural inclination towards the Naad and dive deeper into self-inquiry!

P.S. For those who are wondering what is the Naad, here is a self-inquiry meditation that might help: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLPRIVqnzBZ5XRrQY-ytLH-kRyMDMZ85nl

If this kindles something within, deepen the self-inquiry journey with the self-exploration playlist:

It will be beneficial for you to add a thumbs-up comment in the comment section below the meditation so that you mark an Inquiry after it is done. That way, you can keep track of what meditations are completed versus pending.

All Pre-Gurukul participants must attempt to complete at least 1 self-inquiry meditation every other day starting today. That may help you complete the entire playlist before Dec 31st. That way, you can join Gurukul in January of next year with a strong self-inquiry foundation.

Happy Self-Inquiry!
